چکیده

We have compiled a catalog of 903 quasar candidates (including known quasars) at 3 < z < 5.5 selected among X-ray sources from the XMM-Newton serendipitous survey (3XMM-DR4 catalog). We used photometric SDSS, 2MASS, and WISE data to select the objects. The surface number density of objects in our sample exceeds that in the SDSS spectroscopic quasar sample at the same redshifts by a factor of 1.5. We have performed spectroscopic observations of a subsample of new quasar candidates using a new lowand medium-resolution spectrograph at the 1.6-m AZT-33IK telescope (Mondy, Russia) and demonstrated that the purity of these candidates is about 65%. We have discovered one of the most distant (z = 5.08) X-ray selected quasars.

Type II quasar candidates in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: evidence for X-ray obscuration

Recent X-ray surveys with Chandra and XMM-Newton have found several genuine Type II quasars, the long sought-after population of high-luminosity (highredshift) Seyfert 2 galaxies, and a sizable number of Type II quasar candidates. However, at present it is hard to know whether the on-going X-ray surveys are providing a reliable and nearly complete census of the Type II quasar population. In ord...

SPECTROSCOPIC IDENTIFICATIONS OF SPITZER SOURCES IN THE SWIRE/XMM-NEWTON /ELAIS-S1 FIELD: A LARGE FRACTION OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI WITH HIGH F (24 μm)/F (R) RATIO

We present a catalog of optical spectroscopic identifications of sources detected by Spitzer at 3.6 or 24 μm down to ∼10 and ∼280 μJy, respectively, in the SWIRE/XMM-Newton/ELAIS-S1 field and classified via line width analysis and diagnostic diagrams. A total of 1376 sources down to R ∼ 24.2 mag have been identified (1362 detected at 3.6 μm, 419 at 24 μm, and 405 at both) by low-resolution opti...

Six More Quasars at Redshift 6 Discovered by the Canada-france High-z Quasar Survey

We present imaging and spectroscopic observations for six quasars at z ≥ 5.9 discovered by the CanadaFrance High-z Quasar Survey (CFHQS). The CFHQS contains sub-surveys with a range of flux and area combinations to sample a wide range of quasar luminosities at z ∼ 6. The new quasars have luminosities 10 to 75 times lower than the most luminous SDSS quasars at this redshift. The least luminous q...

Optically - selected clusters at 0 . 8 . z . 1 . 3 in the EIS Cluster Survey

This paper presents preliminary results of a spectroscopic survey being conducted at the VLT of fields with optically-selected cluster candidates identified in the EIS I-band survey. Here we report our findings for three candidates selected for having estimated redshifts in the range z = 0.8−1.1. New multi-band optical/infrared data were used to assign photometric redshifts to galaxies in the c...

Galactic Sources Detected in the NuSTAR Serendipitous Survey

The Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) provides an improvement in sensitivity at energies above 10 keV by two orders of magnitude over non-focusing satellites, making it possible to probe deeper into the Galaxy and Universe. Lansbury and collaborators recently completed a catalog of 497 sources serendipitously detected in the 3–24 keV band using 13 deg2 of NuSTAR coverage. Here, we ...
